really quite crazy to think about all that can happen in a year. i spent three quarters of the year in a dead end corporate job, which taught me a lot but also took a lot from me. despite, i still celebrated another birthday, my 1 year anniversary with august, and made a ton of fun memories that i'll cherish forever. it's hard to even imagine what a year could hold when i really make time for the things i care about, not just work. i think i've grown quite a bit as a person, taken steps towards bettering myself, and overall lead a happier life, and i'm really, really, excited to see what's in store for me next year. it feels nice to be excited about life again, even if it's fleeting. it's new.
not gonna make too much fuss about new years resolutions, but some of my goals are to connect with my friends more, make intentional time for my hobbies, and take my meds more frequently. here's to hoping!

this year was kinda a bust for the "an album for each day of the year" project lmao. in full honesty i only got through may or so. this year was incredibly busy for me and getting into a corporate job just kinda stopped every bit of my hobbies in their tracks. i've learned my lesson for sure though, and while it's fun to make it a little project, this has always been just about intentional music discovery. when other things get in the way, i've always felt pressured to have to "make it up" in some way by listening to more than 1 album a day. at some point, it became a point of stress - almost like i lost the original point of discovery for discovery's sake and just was chasing the achievement of listening to 365 albums in a year. i think it was 2024 i was like way behind and for half of december listened to 6-7 albums a day just so i could hit the number. obviously, something hasn't been working.
more than ever, i'm becoming aware of where i place my attention. this year has marked a huge catalyst in my thoughts regarding the way i spend my time. i really really enjoy discovering new music - it's almost therapeutic for me, when i don't have this pressure attached to it. once i accepted i wasn't going to make 365 albums this year, i started actually liking expanding my taste in music (who woulda guessed??) so, i've decided to change how i do this in years forward.
starting in 2026, i'm putting this back into "hobby" territory. releasing the pressure of it being a project, but keeping the fun of discovery. i'm excited to keep shaping this as years go on, and it's really cool to see how it's evolved already! if you're interested, here's the playlist for all albums i listened to in 2025.
some of my standouts in no particular order:
like a damn dog - sarah and the sundays
patience, moonbeam - great grandpa
manning fireworks - mj lenderman
changing seasons, breaking even - moondoggy
vanisher, horizon scraper - quadeca
getting killed - geese
see you in the new year, friends!

i've got a lot of projects on my mind rn. i'm trying to build a portfolio website for my graphic design stuff (def overthinking but yknow how it is), working on a directory for businesses that actually design their own products, doing a portfolio project for a personalized language learning app, and coding this website. lots of things to think about and feel like i'm dividing my time between a lot. i fear i'll just end up in burnout land and not be able to focus on any of them. maybe i'm biting off more than i can chew
on another note, we had some new furniture delivered today! finally got some storage for the new place and i have a desk!!!! next i need to make my little corner the coziest in all the lands hehehhhe

oh man. oh man. how lovely. i'm a huge fan of their 2025 album patience, moonbeam so was super excited for this one. how did i not know their frontman is trans? that just adds to how much i love this band. this is a great record and i'm going to write more about it later but it's a good one. (and totally won't forget about it i'm sure)

i remember listening to their 2023 album rat saw god in a past 365 project, and was pretty ambivalent about it, but after seeing the acclaim this new album got, it was definitely worth a listen. i felt this growing trend of indie rock infused with country last year and wednesday pulls it off incredibly on this record!. the vocalist is really expressive here which just ties everything together to create this beautiful, passion filled record that feels tangible from front to back. it's always a treat when an album really makes me interested in relistening to a song before i've even finished my first listen, and on this album "elderberry wine" was the one :)

beautifully atmospheric record, reminiscent of an early bc/nr in the beginning, but really really evolves into its' own distinctive post-rock, folky sound. another aoty contender

really striking singer-songwriter indie folk. one of those albums that just stops you in your tracks and you suddenly find yourself in a windy field with tall grass and you're just. reflecting. yknow? this album gave me a really distinct out-of-body-experience-vibe. searows is so great at that. REALLY looking forward to the new album next year. wowzers

i'm such a lover of real deal (2025) so had some higher-then-usual expectations coming into this album - i know that they changed labels for real deal, but wasn't expecting such a change in sound between the albums! i think these songs are deceptively naïve, they're pretty approachable but retain the roots of their future sound which is a bit more melancholy and.. heavier on the soul
quite good tho!
they should let me explore more i think. who knew life was more than this
